Are you still asking employees to tolerate each other?

The February Stop Series

As life evolves and culture changes, we learn more. As a result, we become aware of not only things we should start to do, but things we should stop doing.  February is dedicated to things we should stop.

Are you still asking employees to tolerate each other?

If you are using the word tolerate (or tolerance) within any type of diversity, equity or inclusion training, or leadership development program, please STOP.

In my last post, I recommended you stop using the word sensitive or sensitivity. Please add tolerate or tolerance to your STOP LIST.

Let’s look at tolerate – a word that typically means

  • To put up with
  • To endure something or someone unpleasant or disliked
  • To allow the existence of something you don’t like without interference

Do you want to be tolerated?

People don’t want to be tolerated.  They want to be seen, respected, and valued.
